According to IC Insights' new 2011 edition of its IC MarketDrivers report shows that global PC shipments rose 12% in 2011 to394 million units with personal computer ICs sales areexpected to increase by 10% to $89.2 billion next year as demandfor portable systems continues to fuel market growth. With PCshipments regaining strength, and is expected to 18% in 2010 to 351million units, sales of integrated circuits used in PCs will surge34% this year and reach a record-high $81.4 billion compared to$60.7 billion in 2009.

The strong recovery growth in PCs will snap a three-yearlosing streak for personal computer IC sales (Seechart). Despite three previous years of decline, personalcomputers remain the largest end-use integrated circuitapplications, about 31% of the IC industry in 2010 of totalrevenue, according to a new report, which also includes automotiveelectronics, mobile phones, wireless networks, Digital TV, portableconsumer products, and a dozen emerging markets semiconductorsystems. Between 2009-2014, the personal computer chip market isexpected to increase 10.8% compound annual growth rate (CAGR),reaching $101.2 billion in the final year of the forecastperiod.
