According to Gartner, PCshipments expected to total 352.4 million units, up 14.3%, fromlast year, according to Gartner. Next year, PC sales are expectedto reach 409 million units, up 15.9% compared to lastyear.
Apple Inc’s (AAPL 310.62, -0.53, -0.17%) iPad triggered stronginterest in tablets, which share more design elements with mobiledevices such as smart phones than with PCs and laptops. Major PCmakers, led by Dell Inc. (DELL 13.20, -0.02, -0.15%) andHewlett-Packard (HPQ 41.88, -0.05, -0.12%), have rolled out theirown versions of the device.
In the long run, the media tablet is expected to replace about10% of PC in 2014.
Gartner expects the total sales volume of flat-panel this yearis 19.5 million, and in 2011 nearly doubled to $54.8 billion. Thegroup plans to tablet sales will exceed 208 million by 2014.
