CE industry forecast in 2010

The U.S. Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) ® todayannounced that the consumer electronics industry in 2010preliminary revenue forecast growth of 3% over 2009 and the totalshipment revenue $174.9 billion. The semi-annual U.S. ConsumerElectronics Sales and Forecast (July 2010) also predicts theindustry's revenues in 2011 will be increased by 4 percentagepoints, more than $182 billion of a new high.
Appliance industry will see growth of 3% to 2010, 0.3% fromthe previous forecast. Most of the growth of the industry can beattributed to a small number of product categories -three-dimensional TV, smart phones, Blu-ray player, e-book readerand mobile computing solutions.
Mobile computing category is the main source of income forconsumer electronics industry, including notebook computers,netbooks and tablet PCs, transportation revenue to more than $26billion next year.
CEA expects smart phones continue to be the main drivingforce, with more than 54 million units expected to ship in 2010, anincrease of nearly 31%. By 2011, over 66 million smartphoneswill ship to the dealers, the annual income of $19.6 billion .3-D display shipments will increase to 2.1 million this year,double the original forecast in January, and annual sales revenuewill exceed $2.7 billion. By 2011, more than 6 million units soldis expected to generate revenues to more than $7 billion.
