Global mobile phone sales to end users totalled 314.7 millionunits in the first quarter of 2010, a 17 per cent increase from thesame period in 2009, according to Gartner, Smarpthone sales to endusers reached 54.3 million units, up 48.7 percent from firstquarter of 2009. Among the most successful manufacturers are thosewho control the operating system (OS) integration, hardware andservices.

The first quarter also saw a number of ranked outside the topfive handset makers change (see Table 1), Hong Kong-basedmanufacturers of G - 5 made its debut into the top 10, grabbing 1.4per cent of market share in the first quarter of 2010. From theAsian region the rise of white-box manufacturers, but also to"other" as part of a proportion of overall sales, increase theirmarket share of 19.20 percent in the first quarter of 2010, rose by2.7 percentage points. "“This is having a profound effect on thetop five mobile handset manufacturers’ combined share that droppedfrom 73.3 in the first quarter of 2009 to 70.7 per cent in thefirst quarter of 2010," she said Milanesi.

In the smart phone operating system market, Android and Applewere the winners in the first quarter of 2010(see Table2). Robot moves to the No. 4 position to replace Microsoft WindowsMobile for the first time.

Smartphones account for all mobile phone sales the firstquarter of 2010 of 17.3 percent, an increase of 13.6 percent, overthe same period in 2009.
