Asustek expects Eee PCs to help challenge top-five notebookvendorspot in Japan

Withthecompanyplanning to cooperate withJapan-basedtelecommunicationsvendorNTT Docomo to bundle its Eee PCsthismonth, Asustek Computerisexpecting to use its netbook tochallengethe top-fivenotebookvendors in Japan in 2009, accordingtoAsustekJapan.
Currently, the company's Eee PCproductlineaccountsfor around 85% of the company's total salesinJapan.Asustek isplanning to expand shipment volumes and adjusttheratioto 70% EeePCs and 30% mainstream notebooks in thefourthquarterthis year,noted the sources.
In the related news, Asustek Computersold85,000EeePCs in Japan in the first half of this year. InJulythecompanyshipped 45,000 units and in August 58,000,bringingtotalshipmentsto 188,000 units for the first eight monthsin2008,according to aJapanese-language BusinessComputerNews(BCN) report.
The company's 8.9-inch Eee PC901-X and7-inchEeePC4G-X took the first and second spots in the marketforPCspricedbelow 100,000 Yen (US$946.52), and the twomodels'combinedsalesaccounted for 70.5% of all the PCs that werelisted,notedthereport.
Acer's Aspire one accounted for 9% of salestotakethenumber three spot, while Micro-StarInternational'sU100accountedfor 8% and took fourth place.Hewlett-Packard's(HP's)Mini-Note wasranked number six.
