Repair specialist iFixit's desire to buy new kitandimmediatelytake it to bits continues unabated - it'sjustdisassembled the 2GiPod Touch and the 4G Nano. Revealed: theTouchhas a Bluetoothchip, the Nano a scratch-proof glass screen.
The Touch proved easy to take apart, which bodes wellforfolklooking to get their new player fixed in the future.iFixitwassurprised by the presence of Bluetooth, since it'snotsomethingApple's mentioned so far. The tech's enabled in aBroadcomBCM4325Bluetooth 2.1+EDR chip.

Steve Jobs announced on Tuesday that the new Touchhasintegratedsupport for Nike+, the trainer maker's in-shoewirelesspedometersystem. That uses a proprietary wirelesstechnology, butit operatesin the Bluetooth 2.4GHz band - also hometo Wi-Fi - sothe new Touchhad to have something like thison board.

That said, whether Apple will allow Touch owners to useitforother, Bluetooth-based applications, most notablyA2DPwirelessstereo, remains to be seen. We can only hope.

Like the Touch, the new Nano is driven by anApple-brandedSamsungARM chip. Barely thinner than itspredecessors, the newNano is justas tricky to disassemble andfeatures a batteryhardfixed onto thecircuit board. Applepresumably reckons theseboys are cheaper toreplace thanrepair.

The good news is that the Nano has a glass screen coverinplaceof the plastic ones of old. That plus the metal shellshouldmakethe Nano far more resistant to scratching, giving thedevicealonger lifespan.
