The worldwide semiconductor chip market forecast

In order to support the media on the U.S. Semiconductor IndustryAssociation (SIA report) 'Global Sales Report' in January, iSuppliissued the following fast facts on the global chipmarket:

The SIA reported that the globalsemiconductor sales increased slightly in January 2010 compared toDecember 2009.

Global semiconductor sales inthe first quarter to reach $66.5 billion, fell 4.4 percent from$69.6 billion in the fourth quarter, iSupplipredicted.

However, there will besubstantial growth in revenue compared to first quarter of 2009,the global semiconductor industry suffered a severerecession.

First-quarter global chip saleswill soar as high as 48.5% compared to $44.8 billion over the sameperiod in 2009. The following figure shows iSuppli's forecast ofglobal quarterly semiconductor sales in 2010.

iSuppli forecasts globalsemiconductor sales in 2010 will rise to $279.7 billion, up 21.5%from $230.2 in 2009.This will mark the first year of double-digitpercentage revenue growth for the semiconductor industry since2006. Following the 2009 income fell 11.1%, strong growth in 2010,representing the global semiconductor industry market conditionshave improved significantly. Semiconductor revenue growth this yearwill swing by 32.6 percentage points in the positive direction,from negative 11.1% in 2009 to positive 21.5% in 2010.

In terms of Semiconductorproducts, the strongest chip segment in the first quarter of 2010will be the memory, including DRAM and NAND flash memory, whichwill experience a 99.3% increase in revenue compared to the sameperiod in 2009.
