'Greener' Printed Batteries Power

By Matt Ream, Blue Spark Technologies

Many industry analysts predictthat in the recent commercialization of printed electronicstechnology may be revolutionize major segments of the portableelectronics industry. Printed electronics is the printing ofelectronic devices on common media, such as paper, plastic ortextile printing, using traditional printingprocesses.
Equipment is currently being manufactured in this way aretransistors, integrated circuits, RFID antennas and tags, printingdisplays - thin printed battery, providing a low-voltage,eco-friendly power source to activate the device'sfunctionality.
The Low-voltage battery is not rechargeable, but they arerelatively low in cost and safely disposable.

Some advantages of printedbatteries over traditional button or coin cellsinclude:
Thin, flexible formfactor for easy integration. Thickness profiles ranging from 700 microns (0.027inch) to ultra-thin 500 microns (0.020 inch) often allow printedbatteries to share a substrate with other small form factorflexible electronics.
Fast, scalable production. The manufacture of thesebatteries using conventional printing processes which can scalequickly and economies of scale to meet high-volumerequirements.
Green Design. With containing lithium, mercury andother chemical batteries, battery carbon-zinc battery is fullygreen. They are lead-free, non-toxic substances and fully meet theEuropean Union's Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (RoHS)Directive.
