CTS Corporation has announcedthat CTS Automotive Products was awarded a major new productionprogram for a smart actuator by a global diesel enginemanufacturer. The smart actuator is used as a key part of aturbocharger system on diesel engines, primarily for medium-dutydiesel trucks sold in the North American market. Production isanticipated to begin mid 2012 with total revenues over the life ofthe six-year program to be approximately $50million.
The market forsmart actuator technology in commercial and passenger vehicles isgrowing rapidly and is estimated at approximately $1 billion withinthe next few years. The awarded program is part of the family ofbrushless motor-based, smart actuators that CTS has developed inresponse to this growing market opportunity.
With constantmarket pressures to improve emissions, improve fuel economy andreduce engine costs, diesel manufactures are increasingly lookingat advanced turbo charging and exhaust gas recirculationtechnologies to meet these requirements. The CTS actuator isproviding a path for diesel OEMs to more precisely control thesedevices with outstanding robustness in harshenvironments.
