Hewlett-Packard (HP) is planningtooutsourceproduction of 13-14 million 15.6-inch 16:9 aspectrationotebooksto Taiwan notebook makers in 2009, according tosources atnotebookcomponent makers.
The notebook orders will be distributedamongQuantaComputer, Wistron, Inventec and Foxconn Electronics(HonHaiPrecision Industry). The volume is much higher comparedtoHP'smainstream notebook average outsourcing in 2008 whichisexpectedto range between 6-7 million units, the sourcescommented.
The sources also noted that the 15.6-inchmodelswillfeature LED backlight units (BLUs). In the fourth quarterof2009,HP expects over 80% of its 14- and 15-inch notebookswillfeatureLED BLU panels.
Quanta and Wistron together have grabbedaround10-12million units of the orders, while Inventec andFoxconntogetherwill grab two million units.
Although Compal Electronics was not selectedtobecomea manufacturer of the 15.6-inch model, the companywillstill make14.1- and 17-inch notebooks for HP in 2009.
