Edmund OpticsÂ Introduces IR Holographic Wire GridPolarizers

Holographic Manufacturing Technique Creates Fine GrooveSpacingof2700 grooves/mm

August 13, 2008, Barrington, NJ - Edmund OpticsÂ® (EO),thepremierprovider of optical components and tools, introducesnewIRHolographic Wire Grid Polarizers. These Holographicwiregridpolarizers are manufactured using a uniqueholographictechniquethat creates sub-micron wire grid spacing of2,700grooves/mm. Whencompared to conventional wire grid methods,thisholographic methodcreates a finer groove spacing, forexcellentshort wavelengthperformance.

Substrates of BaF, ZnSe, KRS-5 and Ge

Edmund Optics' IR Holographic Wire Grid Polarizers areavailableinsubstrates made from Barium Fluoride (BaF), ZincSelenide(ZnSe),Thalium Bromoiodiode (KRS-5) and Geranium (Ge).Please notethatspecial care must be taken when handling KRS-5, asit is atoxicmaterial. Rubber or plastic gloves must be worn toavoid theriskof contamination.

High extinction ratios of greater than 40,000:1

These polarizers are designed to polarize lightfromunpolarizedinfrared laser sources and are also idealforattenuating lightfrom polarized sources. When two wiregridpolarizers are usedtogether, high extinction ratios of greaterthan40,000:1 can beachieved. The polarizers feature hightransmissionout to awavelength of 30 mm. To create apolarizer/attenuatorsystem where360-degree rotation is required,these polarizers canbe mounted inthe Edmund Optics 25.4 mm diameteror 50 mm diameterMetricPolarizer Mounts. For ease of use, thepolarization axis ofeachpolarizer is clearly marked by two whitelines etched intothesurface of its protective ring.

25 mm and 50 mm diameter sizes are available

IR Holographic Wire Grid Polarizers are available in a 25mmdiameterwith a clear aperture of 18 mm and a ring thickness of5mm or in a50 mm diameter with a clear aperture of 34 mm and aringthickness of6 mm. They are in-stock and available forimmediatedelivery.
