MicrosoftChina has announced the establishment of a Windows 7 hardwareevaluation center in Beijing. An employee at Microsoft China'sHardware Innovation Center stated that senior management at thecompany recently completed negotiations with a number ofShenzhen-based small, non-branded notebook computer manufacturers,and has reached preliminary cooperation understandings with severalcompanies. An informed source revealed that Microsoft's Windows XPoperating system would be made available to the manufacturers forUSD 19 per copy.

MicrosoftChina plans to launch a Windows 7 logo certification plan that willallow consumers to easily identify reliable products compatiblewith Windows. According to sources, it will cost USD 200 for eachcomputer model that receives Windows certification. After obtainingcertification, notebook computers from the smaller companies willhave the same certification as larger computer manufacturers suchas Lenovo (0992.HK) and HP. A notebook computer manufacturer inShenzhen stated that receiving Windows logo certification would bebeneficial for the export of their notebooks.
